Plans?

Where are you and your model railroad plans? As for me, I have my bottom level track completed. I am working on the upper level track plans. However, my plans are just a general idea so I can figure out how I want to build my benchwork.

It's funny how as you advance more and more on your railroad, more and more projects start to take place and shape. This can be overwhelming. I know I get overwhelmed quite a bit now.

I have scenery I can start on, Structures to build, wiring to get done, switch machines to install and more. This can get a person locked up. My two cents are, just take your time. Pick one thing at a time to work on, even if you don't finish that project at that moment. This hobby is great in the sense that we have as little or as much to do when building and operating a model railroad.

If you are new or coming back to the hobby, and in the laying track stage, try not to rush it. We all love getting some track down and running trains. This can, even at times for me, make us hurry to get it done so we can see a train run or something finished. Then after its all said and done, the "wish I woulda's" start happening. So what I am trying tot say is try to not allow yourself to get in too big of a hurry. While I know all too well that getting trains running is what we strive for, don't sacrifice quality just to get the trains rolling.

Newbie here, sounds like good advice. I keep trying to plan everything out and then getting discouraged by cost and the overall number of projects and then the size of those projects. The more I look into everything and think about what I want out of my first layout and what my wife wants out of it is very hard to balance on a budget. I made a couple designs on AnyRail and it quickly got out of hand as far as size went. I started off with the idea of making something simple but by the time I was finished it was a 30-foot layout. I feel like I'm stuck in the planning stage trying to avoid "wish I…
